Fluoruracil je antimetabolit, který jako pyrimidinový antagonista inhibuje dělení buněk tím, že
interferuje se syntézou DNA. Samotný fluoruracil nemá antineoplastickou aktivitu. Tato aktivita
vzniká v těle po enzymatické konverzi fluoruracilu na fosforylované formy 5-fluoruridin a fluordeoxyuridin.
